Gartner forecasts bumper 2021 for the wearables market

A recent report from research house Gartner indicates a global increase in wearable sales of 18.1% (vs 2020) totalling $81.5 billion. The top two categories expected to drive sales in 2021 are smartwatches and in-ear audio products which saw a whopping 124% increase in sales in 2020, totalling $32.7 billion.

“The introduction of health measures to self-track COVID-19 symptoms, along with increasing interest from consumers in their personal health and wellness during global lockdowns, presented a significant opportunity for the wearables market,” said Ranjit Atwal, senior research director at Gartner. “Ear-worn devices and smartwatches are seeing particularly robust growth as consumers rely on these devices for remote work, fitness activities, health tracking and more.”

Atwal has also forecast the global wearable device market to continue to grow beyond 2021 and reach $109 billion in 2024.
